mississippi map turtle for sale: Only two of these cream white turtles hatched from several hundred thousand in 2007. Yellow shell highlights along with pinkish yellow skin sets them far apart from the normal gray coloration of Mississippi Map Turtles. The contrast with a normal can be seen in the middle photo. They are very well started at almost 3 inches, and are well past the delicate early stages of hatchlings. The care for the Leucistic Mississippi Map Turtles is identical to that of normal Mississippi Map Turtles and follows:

Mississippi Map Turtles are excellent starter turtles, and they make fine community turtles as well. As with most maps, they have very detailed shell and skin patterns. True omnivores, they will take pellets, plant matter, insects, fish, mollusks and earth worms.

Mississippi maps are fond of basking, but quickly dive in when approached. In time, they overcome this instinct and become quite tame. They are very good tank turtles, and adults also do well in outdoor ponds.

In nature, albinos are exceedingly rare, and soft-shelled turtles find themselves as the sole species currently bred in captivity. Within any impressive turtle collection, they effortlessly claim the title of crown jewel. Behold these golden-yellow soft shells as they gracefully glide through their tank, reminiscent of sea turtles. Their captivating presence is undeniable. Over the course of a year, we have nurtured a select few of these turtles. These are not mere hatchlings; rather, they are well-established young turtles, poised to thrive and illuminate any well-maintained tank. Their care regimen mirrors that of normally colored Chinese soft shells:

Chinese soft-shelled turtles, among the world’s smallest growing soft shells, reach adult lengths of 9 to 10 inches. They exhibit outgoing and adaptable behavior. With their elongated necks and flipper-like feet, they prove to be excellent swimmers and effective predators. Their diet leans toward the carnivorous, encompassing fish, insects, crustaceans, and worms. Our specimens readily consume cut fish and pellets. Keeping these turtles is both fascinating and straightforward: provide ample water, introduce some plastic plants, and watch them thrive.

Once abundant across China, Taiwan, and Vietnam, Chinese soft-shelled turtles were once Asia’s most prevalent soft-shelled turtle. They even made their way to Thailand, Japan, and Hawaii. However, today, these turtles have nearly vanished from their natural habitats. The culprits? Collection for Asian food markets and habitat destruction. Thankfully, through meticulous breeding efforts, this species now graces the realm of turtle keepers, allowing enthusiasts to revel in their unique beauty and resilience.
